What is the installed width of a typical Corvair engine. I'm building a Volksplane VP-2 and will be working on the firewall this weekend. The best info I have is that it is 28.5"

Here's a good place to start. I'm sure you know about it, but for others it has a wealth of info. WW, Pat P, and Mark langford links are particularly good.
I know when I first read about the Corvair Conversion I thought "Who would be stupid enough to put a Corvair on an airplane, Ralph Nadar had them recalled in the 60's. But, after reading how rugged, inexpensive and easy they are to build. I was hooked! The second page on PP site has engine mounting. The 28.5 is correct.
