Well,
I am a starving professional pilot who is starving to fly for real, again. No more of this Autopilot B.S.
I have been fascinated by ultralights for a long time, and am curious if there is a model out there that is definitively the lowest cost operator, and lowest cost to own. I understand they are not too difficult to construct. Any info you may all have would be very much appreciated. |

| I would advise you to search for microlights, especially if you don't mind buying an used one. There are second hand microlight airplanes which cost just $4 - $5k |

I don't know if this will be allowed, because the site is mine, but this article perfectly answers your question about the prices:

Affordaplanes can be built easily and on the cheep.
If you need IFR time or just don't have the time or inclination to build there are still plenty of options.
A good Cessna 150 or 152 can be had for $15,000 - $20,000.
For $20k to $30k the options include the PIPER CHEROKEE 140, PIPER TOMAHAWK, GRUMMAN/AMERICAN GENERAL AA1B, ERCOUPE 415, CESSNA 140, and the nicest CESSNA 150/152 |

I'm a starving retiree... I may be old fashioned, but ..
the Evans Volksplane still looks to me a practical entry level project.
The VP2 I am told by a man who flew one twenty years, is miserable as a two place but a delightful and docile single place craft. And you can take a friend up. And you could teach your kids to fly in it.
To that end I bought a set of plans, and two old porsche 914 engines...... total so far about $190.

About two years ago a Wings Forum member in MN let me fly his Fisher FP-202.
Wish I could remember his name... If you read this remind me.
Great little bird. Took off and hit 700fpm climb even with my heavy 250 lb arse! |
