FWIW - here's what I came up with for the safety cables. I wasn't thrilled with the design in the manual because they were wimpy and in the way when you install (and later change) bungees. I used 1/8 ss cable and a stainless tang. Please critique!

Kevin,
Gerald V9 and I have been discussing this issue. The problem that I see is that I do not know what the weak link in the gear is. I am assuming that the bungees are the first thing to go. If that is the case, your straps look fine, and definately better than the one supplied in the kit.
If however the strut bolts or the strut itself breaks, the cable does no good. Is there a need for a cable from the axle to the cabane v?

Very good points. I considered and decided on this compromise. If the strut bolt breaks, I think you are pretty much screwed, right? Or are you considering a welded or other attach to the cabane V? Troy mentioned that he or someone he knows had a bungee let go and either the cable broke or it allowed too much travel. I was thinking about going full length (to the axle) like the cubs, but figured it wouldn't get me much for the extra and the cable would be sagging down in the weeds (I should hope!). Probably not valid points, and perhaps the next set will go full length. Hopefully I won't use them!

Kevin, How did you calculate the length of the cables. If the cables are too short then they take the strain and could possibly cause other damage. If they are too loose then of course they are not any good until maybe too late to save anything. I am just trying to understand.
