I called the FAA today - just about ready to send the registration package in so they can get it done by next September (!!!!). On the affadavit of ownership the form asks for a serial number for the engine. I had planned to order an engine (Rotax)about the same time I start covering (June, I think) - to deal with the warranty issue. The guy at the FSDO didn't know what to put in that blank! He suggested I ask other builders what they had done... so here I am.
thanks!

Kevin,
I had the engine when I filled out the affadavit of ownership. I think I would put the make and model of the engine, and "not recieved yet" for the serial number. I do not think it is critical.

Thanks, Dave.
I talked to the folks at EAA today - they said to put the make/model of the engine and "(not yet purchased)" - it sounds like it is not critical indeed. The problem is that you never know when the FAA is serious, and when not!
