Dave,
The chosen datum point can be anywhere as long as it is kept constant throughout the calculations, and the CG range is defined by the same datum. In the Highlander, it should be the leading edge of the wing. There was a good article on the subject in the latest EAA Sport Pilot magazine. I have to ask, is it really your intentions to land on unimproved fields and beaches at night? Or did I miss understand your reply about the need for landing lights?

Yeah, we,ve done it from time to time over the last 15 years when needed and when overall conditions and PIC proficiency allow it to be done safely but, such landings are not high on my list of routine activities. |
