Aircraft engines are really not usually suitable for cars, most are air cooled so proper airflow is critical; they are not designed for the constant rpm and load changes imposed by stop and go driving, the list goes on...
That said there are two automotive engines that are regularly converted for aircraft use. The Corvair and VW type 4 engines. Both of these engines are horizontally opposed and air cooled with a aluminum block. Look at http://www.flycorvair.com/ and http://www.greatplainsas.com/ |
