Congratulations Gary, looks great!

We're putting straight floats on now, it runs and everything else is done.

Nice job.  Let us know about your cylinder head temps.  Other applications of the Jabiru 3300 in my area (5000 msl) are having trouble with high temps.

Neat video.  Thanks for posting it!

There seems to be more Highlanders with Rotaxs installed than Jabiru.  Why did you choose the Jab?

Jabiru

Post by Gary H »

I have heard a lot of good things about them, more power, 2000 TBO, burns av gas, just plain simple to install. I got a couple of hours in today, at 2600 RPM cruse is 90 MPH, at 2800 RPM airspeed was 115 MPH, but I bet I was sucking the fuel. I don't have a fuel flow meter on it so I really don't know what the fuel burn is yet. CHT, EGT's have all been perfect! Not running hot at all. 10 hours on it now and counting.

jabiru

Just to keep you updated on the Jabiru. It's running perfect! temps are a little on the cool side. I put a aero-carb on it so I have mixture control. Had to lean it way out to bring the temps up.  I'm really happy with it.

As I understand it, they were having the
temp problems on the 3300's. The 2200's
seems to be OK on that issue...

I had originally intended to use the 2200
myself, but with all of the Jab problems, it
will be a toss up between the 912 ULS & a
turbine...

Later!

There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Go turbine!  That would be a first for these planes.

Jabiru

Post by Gary H »

Just to keep you guys updated, The Jabiru is running GREAT! temps are doing just fine. No overheating problems at all. In fact I may have to block more off as the temps are sort of low!  I think my buddy knew what he was doing when he redid the cowl and cooling shrouds. The only thing is a tach,,,, UMA stuff just don't work, I just want a good old analog tach,,,, try to find one that works with the Jabiru and I'll buy you dinner. I think I have talked Falcon to start making one that will.(Ihope) I'll let let you know.  Fly safe, keep your wings level, don't drink and fly and never fly below sea level!
