912 Clutch Input

Post by Johnny C! »

Hey,
For you guys or gals running a
912 80hp. Do you have the slipper
clutch in the redrive? If you do,
do you wish you didn't? Or if you
don't, do you wish you did?

I'm on the fence about it. Lockwood
wants $1056 for it, installed.

I'm inclined to add it, for insurance
from prop strikes, but I don't want
it to cause issues with everyday usage,
or unreasonable additional maintenance.

Thoughts please.

Thanks!

John
There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

I for one am very grateful I have it. I didn't specifically order one but I ordered my firewall forward from Troy and he said they all have the clutch now. Don't know if that's just the ones he orders or in general. Anyway before my plane even left the ground it had a severe prop strike (destroyed the propeller). If not for the clutch I would have been looking at a very expensive engine tear down.

Rick,
In the overall price of the aircraft, the extra $1056
to have it installed at Lockwood, seemed like a good
investment. My primary reluctance is due to the fact
that I am building my Highlander as a trike... But I
know that doesn't mean that I can't have a prop
strike, but at least I hope I won't have any noseovers.
I just didn't want to add another undue maintenance
concern.
The check is in the mail, anyway...

Thanks for the response.!
