I think my Kiev runs a little smoother than my IVO. I like the Kiev spinner much better than IVO's little skullcap thing, in fact I use my Kiev spinner with my IVO prop. To me the whole Kiev setup looks much nicer. I just can't stand how I feel so stuck in one gear with the Kiev. If you have both of these props set at a flat pitch for short take off they will both take off short. But once you are up and ready to cruise the plane with the IVO will leave the Kiev proped plane behind. If you pitch both planes for cruise they will both do that just fine, but at that same pitch the IVO will take off shorter.

I have the Keiv but if I know what I know now I would get an IVO.

As much as I like the Kiev, if I had the option, which I don't, the inflight adjustable is the way I would go.

Steve,
Are you using the Medium Ivo, or the Ultralight?

Have they remedied the issue with the brushes failing
early & often?

Thanks again for the input.

John
There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

After a great phone call with Steve,
and reading the comments here, I'm
going with a ground adjustable Ivo.

Thanks everyone!

Static RPM

Post by Roger »

Hey Guys and Gal's:
I can't seem to find the right blurb on static RPM on the 912 ULS. Can someone remind me what that is?  Also, do any of you remember where you set the pitch for that RPM with that little protractor gizmo they sent out with the engine?
Thanks

I think Troy  told me to set the Kiev static RPM at 5250. I've since readjusted mine to get a little more speed. There are 2 different protractors that Kiev produced. One hooks on the leading edge, the other on the trailing edge. That screwed me up for a while because the readings are totally different Something like 9 for one and 4 for the other. I had numbers written down and couldn't understand how I could be so far off. When I get home tonight I'll check to see what I'm using.

Rick:
Thanks a bunch. I actually worked on mine yesterday and reset it to a #12 setting on that gizmo, and came up with about 5300 static. I had a friend of mine that has a Kitfox and he said that's about right. Really dosen't take long to reset the pitch as long as the cowling is off.
Thanks again

Steve, is the 72" Ivo ultralight prop the one you are using?
