Grove spring gear

Post by Bigsweed »

I've heard someone(s) has installed Grove aluminum spring gear on a Highlander or Escapade. Would like to hear from them if possible for pros & cons.  Thanks

Have you read this forum discussion, http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forum ... -gear.htmlI've never heard of anyone changing the gear configuration on the Highlander but it would be interesting to hear how much touble it was, was it worth it and what the weight difference is.  According to Grooves website the closest thing to a Highlander is the Kit fox 5-7 series and the basic gear it weighs in at 34lbs.

I talked to Jamie about it when I first bought
my kit. I didn't go with it primarily because it
added 30 lbs or so, IIRC. It also would have
required significant fairings, if you wanted to
clean it up, all (under the fuse). I thought it
would help cruise by eliminating the bungees &
their struts, but it didn't seem worth it, so I let
it go...

We were talking about the trike config, also.

There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.
