Fuel tank question

Post by richjen »

I am buying an "old" kit (2006), and was cautioned to be aware of some resin/fuel conflicts that may happen in older taks. Appearantly "newer" tanks are built with resins that are not as sensentive to acohol in the fuel as the 'early' versions. Does anyone have any knowledge about this topic?

If the tanks are brownish in color, don't use them. The good tanks, back then, have a light greenish tint, HOWEVER, even with those tanks you need to test the inside of the tank surface for hardness. The inside surface of the tank should feel as hard as the outside surface. If you can scrape off residue from the inside surface with a metal edge and light pressure you will need to sloosh the tanks numerous times until you can no longer scatch off residue. Use lacquer thinner to clean the tanks. The key is that the inside surface must feel like the outside surface when dry.
