Leading Edge of the Leading Edge Wrap

Post by jjacky »

Hey I got the wrap glued on and clamped it as tight to the spar as possible but still there that little Bump where the leading edge of wrap meets the spar. I tried "bondo-ing" out the bump but sanding away at bondo in that area make me nervous. So am I over thinking this...should I just ignore the bump and move on or is there a better solution?...Thanks!

What we usually do in the shop is to start the forward edge of the bottom wing skin (fabric) at that point. It works out to be nearly the same thickness as the aluminum used for the leading edge wrap and creates a pretty smooth transition. Just butt the fabric right up to the edge of the aluminum.

I used masking tape on the spar and the leading edge with about a 1" space in between the two. Applied bondo and sanded down until tape was bare then removed tape and lightly sanded the edges. Can't see or feel a bump.
