400 HP out of an 88lb engine!

Post by Ewalk02 »

Just browsing the internet and came across this article about Nissans new 3 cylinder engine. It seemed like a good read for anyone daydreaming about a better airplane engine.

Just wonder what the torque is. I'm guessing the 400hp happens at a very high rpm and would need significant reduction to be usable in an airplane.

But the Prop Speed Reduction Unit (gearbox) is also a torque multiplier. It may not substitute for cubes, but it can make that little Rotax swing an 84-inch prop pretty effectively.
