installing artifical horizoni instrument

Post by barry9315 »

When installing an artificial horizon, other than connecting electrical, does the instrument automatically and accurately detect the correct attitude of aircraft in relation to horizon by way of an internal level & gyro?

If you are referring to a mechanical gyro, it will level itself, but you want the instrument itself level so the index marks will be correct and it will indicate level properly. The EFIS horizons should work the same.

All sounds good, however, when determining level in both directions in the pannel a tail dragger sits at a near stall attitude at rest. when flying the tail rises and planes at a seemingly level attitude. a dilemma.

Many things need to be done with the plane in a level attitude such as weighing the plane. Just level the head rack, that's pretty close to the flying attitude. My panel is very close to vertical with the plane level. The GR EFIS and I assume all others allow adjustment of the pitch ladder.
