As Joe said above its only about 2' x 22' (wings span - tanks) x 2 (top and bottom) = 88square feet x .285 (.020 thick) = 25# as Ken said

As far as lightening the wing structure as a skin stressed airframe would be - That is total wing redesign. BIG difference between metalized wing and stressed skin wing.

On the plus side - a metalized wing will tolerate more speed - not that we will see more than 150 kts (that's when the fabric wings start to get wrinkely.

Right it would be a total redesign, but without it, you aren't gaining anything but weight at the speeds these things fly at.

Faster build (maybe), easier paint, perhaps some maintenance benefits. I don’t think it is without its merits, and again, the most important issue is builder preference. What is the benefit of experimental aircraft if you don’t experiment?
