Valdez 2015

Post by kenryan »

Robby Pedersen turned in a very nice performance, scoring 112 feet combined takeoff and landing. Full results are here:

Looks like it's a Cub with Dan Dufault's "Glacier Gear" seen in this Bobby Breeden video:

The Glacier Gear looks like a retrofit of the SuperSTOL gear concept.

What engine does Robbie have. I never cease to be amazed at that kind of performance. Not sure I'll ever have the courage (or feel) to hang it on the prop like that, right on the edge..

Robby has a stock Rotax 912. His first takeoff was incredible. I was wildly impressed considering he was competing against airplanes with almost 2 (Lil Cub 190hp) and 3 times (Breenens Glacier Cub 240hp) the horsepower. I flew with him Sunday morning and the performance with two of us was still ridiculous. I can't imagine what a light Superstol would do with 150-180hp. I also understand that now you can set the gross weight at 1750, that's an impressive load.

I've seen Troy do a takeoff like that with a 912S and a Catto prop. What's Robby running for a prop on his?

It truly is amazing what these planes we enjoy are capable of. Especially when you consider the little horsepower we need to do it.

The videos of Robbies plane are really cool :)
