Batteries

Post by smiley »

Has anyone tried the Shorai battery?
270CA
18 Ah
2.19 lbs
2.6" x 5.8" x 4.3"
$179.00
A little more expensive than a Odysey, but 13 less lbs
I am sure I am not the first one to see this. What do you guys think?

Steve Henry has flown with one. Here's a thread from a few years ago, mostly covering LiFePO4 batteries: http://www.wingsforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=218&t=21816.

You can gather a lot of information on LiFePO4 batteries from AeroLithium (http://www.aerolithium.com/), AeroVoltz (http://www.aerovoltz.com/) and EarthX (http://earthxmotorsports.com/).

My current favorite (no pun intended...) is the EarthX, which has a built-in battery management system that does cell balancing and protects the battery from over-charging and over-discharging.

I have a Shorai on my Ducati. My next Airplane battery will be a Lithium for sure.

Just have to figure out which brand.

My Highlander has been running on a 24AH Shorai LFX24L3-BS12 for 460+ hours, starting a UL350iS. It hasn't burst into flames, shows no sign of fading and weighs about as much as an empty case - great battery.

I have a brand new Aerovoltz 12 Cell battery if anyone is interested. I also have the cell balance charger to go along with it if interested.
Battery weights 2.5 lbs.

More info at http://www.aerovoltz.net

Retail, battery is $220, charger is $105

Both for $200.

Still an Aerovoltz, miscommunication caused me to end up with two sets.
