Elevator Troubles

Did anyone find any warpage on the elevators during installation? With the elevators clamped level with the Horizontal stabilizers were seeing a 1/8" down bow of counterbalance on the right side, which is barely noticeable. But on the Left side (with the trim tab) there is a 1/4" to 3/8" down bow of the counterbalance which is very visible. Before I start trying to "tweak" the bow, just wondering what other builders found during the elevator installation.

Hi Michael,
It's supposed to be that way ... it's offset to prevent flutter.
Check out this previous post before modifying anything... http://www.wingsforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=218&t=20549&hilit=Elevator

Dan, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I searched for "Elevator Bent" and "Elevator Warped" and didn't find that post. Why oh why hasn't Just updated the build manual! Would have saved us a lot of time! Tonight we got everything lined up at the front of the horizontal stabilizer and then drilled the holes. Me and my build partner are happy with the results! Not to mention we now have a moving control surface!

Thanks Again!
Michael

Michael,
So I want to understand this crystal clear…

You are saying to simply align the counterbalance leading edges with the leading edges of the horizontal stabilizer(s) and clamp in place. Allow the trailing edges of the elevators to fall where they may. Drill through the control horns, regardless of their alignment to each other.

Is that all correct, or am I still missing something?
