Landing Gear attach alignment issues

Post by BucF16 »

Hey All,
Did anyone have propylene with the Extreme Highlander 3 attach points lining up? Both left and right have problems. On the left it's the aft attach, and the right, it's the center. Both are about 1/16 off.
Solutions?
She's sitting on the gear now with 2 bolts each
Thanks in advance!
Bruce

They were difficult on mine as well. I used a drift pin with a long taper on the one that didn't line up. Then put the bolt in the other way and tapped it in driving out the drift pin.

Thanks! That was my plan as well. I'll let you know how it works.

I have the same issue every time I switch from wheels to floats and floats back to wheels!
Drift pins work miracles!

PS: No need to buy one... I just ground a taper on a long bolt and use that as a drift pin. Don't taper it too much or it will move out of alignment as you slide the good bolt into the other side.

Same here. I found starting from the front, largest tube, and working to the rear, smallest tube works best. The smaller tube is easier to wrestle into position. In addition to a drift, try making a bullet bolt. Grind the threads off a #4 bolt making it smooth and slightly tapered. Mount the gear with the bullet in the opposite direction you want the mounting bolt, then tap out the bullet with the mounting bolt. Don't forget to lube the bolts with grease. Have you done the bungee wrap yet? That will make attaching the gear legs seem like a piece of cake.
