I-beam Moved!

 Just a minute ago, I was de-burring my strut brackets with a push-pull de-bur tool that mounts on a drill. As I was de-buring one of the holes, and extracting the tool, the I-beam moved inside the wing!!! I assume the I-beams are installed at the factory, on all builds, as there is no reference in the manual to their instillation. So, my question to the group: Are the I-beams Hysoled in place? And if so, did the factory miss this one? How about the other I-beams?

Thanks in advance!

Bruce

I may have figured it out. I called Max Rentz, another highlander builder here in Ohio, and between the two of us we reasoned that there probably isn't epoxy on the I-beam, as the fit is too tight. It would be scraped off by the time it was positioned. It is not surprising that my de-bur tool, being powered, would nic the riser of the I-beam, and shift it. It is now back in place with a cleco.

BUT if ya'll have any observations that you'd want to share, please do.

Hey Bruce. When I built my Highlander I had to install the ibeams myself, even with the quickbuild wings. I made sure to keep some clecos in a few holes to prevent movement. And no, no epoxy was used.

Have fun.

Bruce,
Did you get the I beam back in place? If not, I have the instructions on how to position and install them. My kit had the Quick Build Wings option but for some reason the I beams were not installed at the factory. I called Just, they insisted the I beams were installed, I finally convinced them they were not. In any case, the instructions are in the old Highlander build manual. Along with some guidance from Jac I installed mine without much difficulty. Apparently the early Escapade and Highlander kits came without the I beams installed and at some point that changed to a factory installed item.

Thanks, That explains why it is not mentioned in the manual. The I-beam slipped only about 90% of a hole diameter. So, I used a dental pick and persuaded it back in position. Of course this would happen on a weekend. Thank you all for a timely reply.

Cheers

I got the wings set to the fuselage and all the I beams were installed, the fuel tanks were installed, the strut brackets were installed, and the wing attach reinforcement tabs were installed. Everything was hysoled and riveted.

I have to say the fast build wings and having them set to the fuselage are a great deal.
