SS spoilers

Post by ls6pj »

Hi guys, still in limbo over the spoilers. as we both have a lot of tailwheel and gliding experience, our initial thought is to do without the spoiler option. I`d like to hear from someone that`s flown the superstol both with and without the spoilers, so that he can give a clear picture of what the difference is. we do aim to fly the aircraft in and our of mountain strips in the Alps
thanks for the help.

Hi Paul, I have not flown a SS with Spoilers. However I know that the decision to add them was to mitigate these type of mishaps:

You will note that at such a high AoA rudder is the primary roll control surface. In this case, too much aileron was used. If I were to order a SS I'd add the spoiler.

Cheers,

I just recently purchased a Just Aircraft SuperSTOL Kit through Wallen Aircraft, and according to both Chris Wallen (Who had worked for Just Aircraft) and the factory they both told me that they are including Spoilers with all kit purchases now. I would highly recommend them, I concur with Bruce. I would also recommend talking with someone from the factory concerning the need for the Spoilers.

I have flown both.
Was easy decision after that. No question that they make a better airplane.

If you never go REALLY slow you wont NEED them, but then why would buy a SuperStol.

Just my opinion, and I am no test pilot.

If you want a more experienced opinion call Harrison, he showed me manuevers that I did not think were possible.
