Inspection panels on SS

Post by mac »

Just an FYI folks. Lots of inspections panels on a SS wing with spoilers. Just realized it with somewhat recent info from Just.........just in time. Looks like 17 on right wing and 19 on left wing. Plus, don't forget to final paint the spoilers themselves before covering the bottom...................unless you want them bare aluminum. Pretty sure you'll never get those puppies out without tearing into the fabric in a big way.

Make sure you like what you see before covering the bottoms.

Actually, you can get them in and out after cover. I've done it.

It is neither fun, nor easy. But it is possible.

I must admit that is the one thing I don’t like about the SuperSTOL design.

Hey Paul,

Which thing? All the inspection holes required, or the spoilers?

How's the build coming? I'm still trying to carve out some room and complete my inventory...

I realize all of the inspection holes are required. I just do not like the esthetic appearance of the quantity of access holes. I like the slats, and yes because I’ve added the slats it automatically increased the number of tha access holes on both wings. It just my personal opinion.

Building is going well I’m still fighting my head cold. Attached is a photo of tying the vertical stabilizer into the fuselage. That was a chore. I had a wide gap with the rudder at the top to no visible gap. I had to do quite a bit of sitting on the hinge interface to get adequate motion, but it turned out pretty good. I really liked how it blended into the fuselage.

Chris comment, “I am sure glad you didn’t just bring it and say here’s the tail install it. I wouldn’t have known where to start.“ Personally I know he would have figured it out, but since the design has been rattling around in my head for 6 months I’m positive it went faster with me just doing the install. Hopefully, It performs well as I feel it looks. We will figure that out in a couple months when we do the test flight of the Plane.

I left it with Chris. Chris and his wife were leaving for a few days to visit family. I’ll be heading back later in April to help with the covering.

Yes....page 48 of Chapter 2 of a manual dated 11/13/17. Don't really know if that is the latest version or not. Do know that page has a graphic showing the locations when using spoilers.
