Won both days. Best run was in the 130s I believe, a takeoff in 50 something and a landing in 70 something. He's got a lot of new mods, partial slats in front of the ailerons. some tail feather mods, etc. Pretty much blew everything away, but Hal Stockman and his 500lb rans was close, had one run in the 160s.

Even though Steve dominated the STOL the star of the party was Draco the fire breathing Wilga..... check out Mike Patey's build on youtube. Guy is a genius. 680 hp turbine..... reverse thrust on landing is a game changer. (and has a back up camera as well) Climb is nothing short of amazing, like a rocket. A 2000 lb beast that takes off and lands in 100 feet. He just finished it a couple days before taking it to Oshkosh.

Congrats Steve! Love to hear more about the new mods on 6!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_T62

It's an APU off a couple aircraft. 100-150HP.

111lbs, 150HP!
The 100HP is like 85lbs.

Look at the 9:07 mark for Steve's take-off, and 11:10 for the landing.

Video was difficult because they staged the aircraft waiting to take off between the spectators and the flight line. It was almost impossible to see the aircraft that were taking off or landing. I saw a video on YouTube that appeared to be the STOL competition being held on the main runway again list is was originally at Oshkosh. I had to head home on Thursday morning so maybe they moved it to the Main runway again on Thursday. They had hundreds of people around the Ultralight field on Monday and Tuesday. may more left when they could not really see what was going on at the flight line. Maybe clearer videos will show up from Thursday and or Friday. I was as close as I could get but my videos were not able to get a good image. Steve's plan looked as clean as could be considering it just few in from out west. The Oratex looked good. The work was awesome. The purple SS XL looked awesome in person. I took a bunch of photos of that machine. It was displayed at the Oratex tent. Photos do not do that plane justice. The Purple is metallic and really looked good. Joe B

Hey Fred, It looks like the forum is a little slow. Hopefully everyone is out flying. I'm supposed to chat with Steve in the next day or so. I'll ask him about the new mods. In the meantime, his next mod came yesterday in the form of a Skytrax gearbox. Steve is testing the first production example. This box replaces the Rotax C box and allows the prop to turn the correct direction. It also aligns the thrust line with the longitudinal axis. I tried to copy the picture that Steve posted on his Facebook page, BUT FB will only allow me to copy the link. :(
