Bottom Stringer Termination - SS

Post by Clark in AZ »

Can someone post a pic of how you terminated the bottom stringer at the rear? This is for a SuperSTOL.

Thanks,
Clark

Sorry my photo is not very good, you can kind of see that it bends up right after the last stand off, to come inside the fuselage just in front of the next cross tube. Stretch a sheet over it to check your lines.

Remember, any liquid spilled will follow this sringer.

Thanks! Does this look OK, too long, or should i bend it up more?

Thanks,

Nope. The ELT tray tabs are there.

*Edit* Here is a little better pic...

Ok
Thats how they say to do it
Yes maybe a little long

I left mine really long, ran it all the way back to the tab for the ELT so it had suport, just liked that look better. The screw that holds the ELT plate also screws into the stringer.

What you have there works just fine, wrap a sheet over it to see where it is not touching the tube anymore and cut it an inch or 2 longer, so the end wont contact fabric.

Yep, I ran mine all the way back, too. Mine goes just short of the crossmember at the tailwheel pivot. I put a rivet nut in the top of the stringer, right at the end. A 6-32 x 3/8" screw goes down through the ELT mount and into that rivet nut, locking the stringer in place.

Thanks guys, Jak got back with me and said I had it correct. I don't know why they just don't weld a stud on the last cross bar under the ELT tab to plug into? It would take all the guess work out of it.
