CG Level vs. Door Frame

Post by rpigeek »

When the aircraft is level to measure the weights for CG is the bottom of the door frame level? The reason I ask is when I weighed the aircraft I just leveled the door frame, and after reading a thread about rigging floats it has me questioning if that was an accurate place to level the aircraft.

I spoke with Jak about this many years ago. His recommendation was to use the fore and aft head rack tubes. You can use them for level fore/aft and span wise. On my fuselage I found the door frames were close but not the same.

This is in the Builder's Manual... Appendix B -- Weight and Balance: "Weight and Balance must be done with the headrack level (i.e. in flying attitude)"

It might be worded a little more expansively, as you did, Gary. Maybe: "Weight and Balance must be done with the fore and aft head rack tubes level (i.e. in flying attitude)."
