Well, I have been too busy to get the new plate done( it is almost done).

So I tried the VHB tape, I used 4 -1” pieces per side because that stuff scares me in large pieces.

The gap seals all stayed in, but I did have one end come loose, so I will add 2 more 1” pieces.

As I said before - with gap seals is mich better.

I had ordered the really expensive one from aircraft spruce for piper AC.
It is made to seal a very small gap so it will not stay in our AC. Although, you might be able to put a gap filler in it. It is a very nice piece.

Update

I have finally got a piece that will stay in without glue or tape (so far), I have 2 hours and a bunch of T/O and landings.

I had to use a 2 5/8” foam roll to get a large enough piece that will grip the tube.

The new plate (version 6) has longer “edges” or lips, and a thicker cross section.

More testing and numbers to come.

Update on the gapseals
When I was flying the other day, there was a x-wind and I was practicing slow touchdowns, w high angle of attack and lots of power.
Toward the end I was running out of rudder authority all of the sudden, which I thought was odd. But after I got back to the hanger I noticed that the rudder gap seal had blown out. It really makes a difference!!

My goal here, has been to make an inexpensive gap seal that will stay in place without glue. Up until now the rudder seal has stayed in place, I have had to work on the dimensions for the horizonal seal as it wants to blow out on mine.

I have heard that it stays put on the Highlander and smaller Superstol tho... any other experience there?
