Ah man! It makes you sick to know how much work it is to get to that point and then have that kind of result! That can't be coming out the spray gun, especially after all the precautions you're taking now. It looks like somewhere along the line the fabric had to have gotten contaiminated with oil or silicon

Kevin, I am so sorry for your results.  A couple suggestions....switch to superflite....   what I used no problems....
Or,  talked to a painter friend of mine.  He said that if you would use two VERY light tack coats first it may solve your problems.  He also said the temp had a lot to do with it if you have it too cold.   Let me know if I can help in any way.  I can talk to my friend who helped with my paint.  He does it for a living, painting motorcycle grills.
Sorry,
Dennis

Going the right direction again?

Post by KevinC »

I'm not going to declare victory yet, but I've had 3 good sessions in the paint booth in a row.  Stewart System very nice from a toxicity standpoint - very critical on contamination and timing.

A happy boy and his ailerons...

Post by KevinC »

Ok - not going on the consultation circuit yet, but I think I've finally got the painting thing.  Today had a 'lightbulb moment' when I finally got a 'feel' for the paint flow.  Anyone doing the Stewart system feel free to contact me.  It is good.... and can be difficult.

Tail feathers/flaps/ailerons are done - fuselage goes in the booth tomorrow.

Close enough to perfect... for me

Post by KevinC »

Well after trials and tribulations the fuselage is white.  Looks pretty good - close enough for me.

Next week color & back on the gear.

Cougar crimson...

Post by KevinC »

I was humming the Cougar fight song all day today.  Tomorrow she goes back on the gear.  Fight, fight, fight for Washington State....

Left wing is covered - taping next.

Nice to have it finally going smoothly.

On the front of the plane, if only temporarily.  Looks cool - makes me want to sit in it and make airplane noises....

Kevin, before you final mount that 912s you might consider buying different mounting bushings.  I see you have the "yellow" marked ones as I did.  Everyone I saw down at the fly-in in Bushnell said the same thing.  They GIVE OUT!  I have only 40+ hours on mine and can tell already they are smashing down.  I talked to Troy about it and he said yep,,, "they" ordered the wrong ones for the 912s.  "Easy to replace, he said"....#$%^&   Don't think so.  You need to get the green ones, the harder ones.
