Covering DONE

Post by KevinC »

Finally, I've glued my last tape.  The right wing is covered and taped, ready for paint.

I realized this morning that I started covering in July last year.  Now I know what is meant by "half way there, 90% to go....".

Ahhh! Fair and balanced...

Post by KevinC »

Finally the right wing is there to balance 509KC.  I feel better.  Actually mounted up the flaps and ailerons too. Looking like a plane.

Kevin,
Looking good!  --and the shade is already being appreciated.
Keep up the good work.

Sneaking up on the goal...

Post by KevinC »

Long day in the shop today.  The wiring is about 80% complete and the cowling is ready to mount.  Miller time....

Prosser update

Post by KevinC »

Cowling is now painted - trim color just shot and drying in the booth.  One more paint session to go and I'll be free of that horrible job!

I decided to go with the 8" wheels and Nankang tires - here's a picture.

I'll let you know how they work - hopefully soon.

Kevin,

Looks great!  I finished my painting over a month ago and I still can't stand the thought of doing it again.  Very labor intensive work and HOT to say the least.

marathon weekend

Post by KevinC »

Marathon weekend.  I have a date with the DAR, and am running for the finish line.  Had to post a 'baby picture'.

It's a plane!

Post by KevinC »

As ready to fly as I can be.  Got all the important things that actually make aircraft fly - data plate, registration, passenger warnings, N-numbers - so it must be ready.  Oh, and the engine purrs like a kitten.

Waiting for DAR.....

Kevin,
 Great job!

Keep in touch!

John
There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Hey Kevin,

The airplane looks great!  I definitely noticed the Wazzou colors.

Let me know how it turns out

Kevin,  Good Luck with the DAR inspection.  Is your first trip going to be to Cleveland, GA?  Would be a nice break-in

Kevin,

Looks like a great job! I really appreciated your series of posts relating to your progress.

Is that an Alpha Systems Angle of Attack (AOA) probe that I see mounted on the bottom of the starboard wing? I was keenly interested in Mark Korin's demo of that system at the Sun-n-Fun this year. Which of his various displays are you using? Please keep us posted here on how well the system works after you're up in the air and have some time on it.

Alpha AOA

Post by KevinC »

Chuck-

Being basically simple (and cheap) I went with the mechanical guage.  Electronic things just seem to go out for me.  I mounted the guage in the glare shield so I can just see the needle sweep and out of the view out the window.  Never flown with one, but others recommended.

Here's a picture of the panel.
