Ryan Field Fly-in, West Glacier, Montana

August 10-12, 2007

To all RAF supporters:

Do not forget the fly-in at Ryan Field.  This will be an excellent time for all of you that have not been to Ryan Field to meet Ben and Butchie Ryan, see the property first hand, and get to know each other. This will also be a chance to exchange ideas on enhancing the future of recreational aviation opportunities through the RAF.

The RAF Board of Directors is hosting this fly-in. Arrivals will commence on Friday afternoon with final departures on Sunday. For those of you that would like to help out improving the airstrip and the other recreational opportunities on the 152 acres of property, bring work gloves, an axe and if you are close by, a chainsaw.

All pets need to be kept on a leash.

There will be camping available under the wing. Campers who arrive on Friday should plan on having their planes parked on the inside of a double row of planes. These planes will not be easily accessible until Saturday evening. There is one porta-potty on site. Campers are responsible for their own meals except the Saturday afternoon BBQ when the RAF will provide steaks and two side dishes plus cold drinks.

Saturday afternoon: Ryan Field will be closed to air operations from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. to allow for the BBQ, which will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Local Forest Service and Glacier National Park officials have been invited to the BBQ. The Ryan property is surrounded by Forest Service lands and is less than two miles from Glacier National Park.

To better prepare for this event, it is requested that you RSVP to Chuck Jarecki at skywagon@centurytel.net no later than Wednesday, August 1, 2007. Indicate when you will be arriving, number of persons and your mode of travel. Local pilots are asked to bring a side dish for the BBQ.

Attached is the layout of Ryan Field. It is up to you to decide if it is safe for you to use the airfield. Use 122.9 for the common traffic advisory frequency. Please avoid flying over Glacier National Park.  Ryan Field is depicted on the current Great Falls Sectional Chart. On the ground, the RAF will have a radio tuned to 122.9 when traffic is observed.

Two helicopter scenic flight operations are based about one mile west of West Glacier along Highway 2. They do not monitor 122.9 on a regular basis, so watch for their operations in and out. They generally fly over the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. They will be advised of the Ryan Field fly-in traffic.

If you are driving, from West Glacier go east on Highway 2 about two miles (just past mile marker 155), make a hard right turn on a gravel road and go two miles to the end of the road at the Ryan home. Do not drive onto the airstrip.

See you at Ryan’s on the second weekend of August.

Jerry
