Howdy

Post by Wiplash »

Hey,

Airman Wiplash reporting as ordered...

My name is Todd, I live in NE Indiana and I'm 41 yrs old.

Recently bought an Air Command gyorplane. Planned on building one from plans but I was presented with a deal I couldn't refuse. Now it's time for some training...

Other motorized interests include snowmobiles (Polaris XCR600), motorcyles (75 Honda CB500, 82 Yamaha VX920RH and Suzuki SP600), jetskis (85 Kaw 550 and 92 Yam JS650).

Non-motorized interests, Snow Skiing, shootin gunz and breathing mountain air.

Was this >-< close from buying a Challenger II this winter but just couldn't get my hand to reach into my pocket and fork out the dough...

At any rate, I'm still interested in a fixed wing UL even though i'm at the beginning of my sling wing journey...

Ciao,
Todd

I think you made a better choice by going with the Gyro over the Challenger....
.
I've seen some gyro's up close at our field.... they really look FUN !!!

Make sure you get the right training.... , so it doesn't bite you...

I may be crazy enough to want to fly in this man made contraption but to my credit, I'm not foolish enough to do it without the proper training...

Nice EAA article.

I'm back...

Enjoying flying my gyro.
As much as i enjoy it, I've always had an itch for fixedwing flying. Not saying one is better than the other, i'm just one of those "short attention span" people. I'd prefer to call it "keeping myself diversified"...

At any rate, I came across a deal I couldn't pass up. At least it seemed like a deal at the time, only time will tell.

I bought Firestar N2599T. It needs some TLC and tough ups but it's airworthy.

With no taildragger experience, I've heard Kolbs are the most forgiving, with a Hirth 2706, I'd imagine it won't be as tame as it would be with a 447 or 503...

One good thing about the Kolbs...

They fly like planes....

(Unlike some of the light aircraft ...)

In the Air... Not much rudder is needed...

But on Take off.... Left Rudder , Left Rudder , Left Rudder....
.
My FSII w/503 is classed as "High Performance Light Aircraft"

I like my three Blade IVO for Short Flights and Short Fields,

But switching it to Two Blade is better for Longer Flights...

It gives me a Faster Cruise Speed.
.
I have some "Mods" like getting rid of the Kolb "Hoops"....

The Brake lines tend to catch your feet on the ground...

I ripped my fabric before I changed them...

Speaking of "Hoops".... I had a training "Hoop" on the nose of the plane for a while...

They tend to Tip on the nose... ( Nothing Dangerous , Just Damaging )

The reason... Homer put the Gear towards the back for better control of ground looping...

Now that I have a better Idea .... I don't need it any more...
