Hi Elliot,
            Here's our Buttercup STOL site.... We have a lot of people on it... ( You'd be number 200 )

The Control arms were made "per print".... you just squeeze the tube in a Vise....

I added the base reinforcing pieces.... instead of these other "Finger Patches" they've been doing...

 My TIG cup is a small one in tight places.... a couple sizes up in normal areas...

Sometimes you just need to stick the tungsten "out" further....

 As far as some Brazing has gone...  Silicone Bronze ( Tin/copper ) was used.... It's stronger than Brass,

and goes on the same.... I use the TIG for that also....

Hello Mike- That is a fine looking Pooch. I noticed that he/she fly's with you. I have tried that a few times with my Pooch and he doesn't like it. Believe its too loud. I have a Spam Can a C337 which I do Part 135 Marine Survey work with. The Cockpit is loud but not as loud as a open Biplane nor a aircraft such as a BC12D, 7AC, W10 or others. I might try the earmuffs but believe Louie the Pooch will not go for it. Keep up the good work your vehicle looks very nice. I have been looking at a W10 for a long time. My son will be able to start flying in a few years. I'll teach him but will know it would be a big leap to solo in a W10. The Buttercup would be another story. I have a nice shop and hanger but can't jump in yet. I started in the aviation business 30 years ago with a fabric and paint shop. Became a pilot and retired. Airports and Airlines are not like they use to be. I believe the best place for a child to grow up is the baseball field and the airfield. Unfortunately it's becoming harder and harder for kids to use both if the powers to be have there rules and regulations.  Here is a nice link to some information which has some very good fabrication/ building tips. Please keep up the good work. Your craftsmanship is definitly very very well done. You have to be a EAA member to access the Sport Plane archives. The site search engine can run very slow sometimes even with a High Speed connection.

Rudder Pedal Assy

Hey Guys,
               This next series will be about the Rudder Controls....

Kent was over , so we both sat in the plane , and sized things up....

Fits good side to side.... There's a difference in Leg room....  

I'm making the Rudder Pedal assy to have a forward and rear adjustment...

This is only about  1-1/2"... but there's also more adjustment by tilting the pedals

   Here's a picture sitting in the plane...

.My print is older... the view for the arm that holds the rudder return sping

was "Backwards".... you can see it in the forward position in these pictures ...

I changed it later ... Now it's right and the springs work better...

The new prints have a revised view that corrects this....

I think they are 6 degrees to the rear...

PS  I put bushing sleeves at each pedal...to spread the load... I welded everything...
Then put the straps on and welded them...

                Not only am I making the assembly to "unbolt"

But I'm also adding an adjustment for the whole Rudder Pedal Assy....

It will move aft aprox 1-1/2"

Hey Guys,
                 Here's a few Misc pictures....

One... is the Bushing between the Pedals... This will help with the load on the cross bar
ESPECIALLY since my version is bolted to come apart...

two... This is a Raised Bushing... it helps with several things...also helps clear carpeting...

three...  I was thinking about using a shackle at the Rudder Horn... Can't , bad angle...
So I made some easy/cheap linkage...

Hey Guys,
                This next little gadget is a "mod" of mine...

I don't like the cable running the way it does.... I noticed some Tailwind guys had used
a Nylon guide , but I didn't like the angle , it looked like it would "wear" to easy...

So I designed a pully to take the angle of the cable and feed it into the nylon guide...

Hey Guys,
I got my dual control Stick pretty much done today...

I say "Pretty Much" because it can always be changed....

It's adjustable and removable...

I have holes "in place" for wiring , if I want a PTT button on the other side....

Or... The control can just be loosened and Turned the other way...

If I want to... I can make the passenger side splice...

But first I'm gonna try it like this...

The stick control also has enough "overlap" that Height can be adjusted...

I noticed Steve had both controls slanting "back"....

By being adjustable... I can find where I like it...

If I have to... I can remake it after I find out what's comfortable...

Hey Guys,
I didn't like the small 1/4" bolts that were welded on both ends of the Elevator Control Rods....

One , at the "Stick"..... The other at the Elevator Control Horns.....

One of the main things I didn't like about them was the weld....

Not the Rosettes .... but the weld sealing the bolt and tube....

I felt it made a weak area....

I changed this area by going with 5/16" bolts ( and Heims )

and I didn't put the "seal" weld on them.....

I used a spacer tube to take up the difference between the Bolt and tube...

Then put two very good rosette welds on each bolt....
.
People have written and told me the smaller bolt was plenty strong....

But for "MY" peace of mind.... ( Eyeball Engineering )

I feel better about the change...

. I returned the Heim's that had the zerk fittings in them for regular ones...

The zerks were just pushed in.... and I've heard a lot of strength is lost from drilling the hole.
