OK...
Back to the Doors.
I'll put any "Sound deadening" on the door skins LATER...(After Airworthiness Cert)
For now...I'll paint them Flat Black...

I added some color to the Bare Alumimum...Poor mans Anodizing ( Sharpie Marker )
The detail is hard for the camera to catch...so I took a close up of a section...
.
Maybe some Flames in the Fuel tank area...
I'll still need to do this to the other door...
I'm still prepping the rest of this door.
.
Gotta Fly...

PS I''ll add my other planes Fuel Flames too....

Part two of the flame...
I'm out of Flat Black right now...
The other door panel is ready to spray...( The Blue Flame is Masked off )
and now...this panel needs some black after I mask off the Red Flame area.
.
My Colors are Red, White and Blue..... Black and Silver for Oakland Raiders ( Not Vegas Traitors )
.
Besides... it's magic marker...it wipes off..

Hey Guys,
I still need to go to town for Flat Black paint...
Til then I got the other door caught up...
Once they are sprayed , I can start riveting the skin on the Door frame...

Right now I just want some paint...
If the blue side turns out crappy... I'll put the masking tape BACK on it...

Because I taped the Blue flame DAYZ before I got paint...I had less than crisp lines.
Seem the lines needed a lot of clean up..Hours
So I'm ready to start the riveting tomorrow.
.
Here's a look at the Blue side.... It's the same pattern , but shaded different.
It's a moving art the way the light hits it as you move...and it's FAINT...hard to capture on camera.
It "Fits" Miss Tickle Madness

Hey Guys,
I'm ready to install the window/Plastic
I'm going to sandwich it and rivet it...No adhesive, But I'll use a Thin line of masking tape as a chaff tape
.
The inside part of this Sandwich will be .032" Aluminum angles that I will bend with the 40" Brake...I'm braking 31" angles.
The Bottom angle will have an extra Bend to capture the Middle Chromoly Tube. ( Sort of a "Z" bend )
I'll make that extra lip/flange long enough to use it Later as an attachment point (GPS or Phone or Radio , Hook for the Headset... NOT ALL !!! )
.
Well...I was thinking about a MicroStop @100 degrees to make precise countersinks for my homemade Flush rivets... Hmmm, Some holes .... Most holes needed that personal touch to get the best angle to seal... This was because my holes on the tube slightly Dance around the center contact area...
Not bad...But it was too easy to do the few I had...I used my hand crank deburring countersink... The small one.
The Money I SAVED actually made the expense deburr kit WORTH IT...

Picture of the Door... to this point...
The other door can wait another stage.
I don't like to get too far head from each other...
I'll Bend enough Aluminum to make angles for both doors.

.
Gotta Fly...

Footnotes... The Door feels pretty solid after riveting the skin... It lost the Tinny sound.
I think the Window adhisive had a lot to do with that....
Total Door Weight is under 7 lbs... Probably 7 with the inside window angles.

After handling the Door to fit Window Angle/Supports the upper skin had screwed up flush rivets from rocking on the tube...
So... After using Aluminum rivets on the Window...( The plastic was drilled out the next size up for expansion )
I then replaced the Skin/Tube Rivets with SS pop rivets...
They aren't flush....Oh well... Thought I'd get fancy.

The Window rivets are Aluminum for easy change...
I'll probably change to the new fuel resistant Lexan...Tinted
.
In these pictures I'm making the Angles...
I learned a new trick for bending.
This is .032 inch thick and 31 inches long...( I bent 33.5 inches and trimmed them down )
My upper "one piece Knife" is Chromoly...Homemade , I made it with a crown...slight
.
these bends are better than I could hope for.
.
Bending such small a small flange calls for my lower die reduction across... ( I use 3 pieces of 1/4 inch Key Stock )
But reducing the Size takes more Pressure to push down the Knife.
.
I had someone help me with the first bend... Hmmm.
We were uneven on pressure and bouncy...Test run piece is back in the Aluminum pile , Flange was TOO small
.
I tried a Rope across both handles and let it hang low enough to STEP on...
This gave me Power to spare...and an even pull on the handles.
The Rope is now cut to fit and will stay with other Mods on the Tool.
.
.
I have this 3 in 1 tool on this Forum...Main page...Topic - Tools
You can see it's "Mods" there... Soon to add this helpful tip...
.
Gotta Fly...
.
I'll add some more pix...limit 3

Doors are Finished...?

Only thing left is painting the outside skin... The panel in front of it needs the same thing...
.
I sealed up some leaks I knew I'd have...I used a little plastic and White tape... Little foam piece little white tape.
The door seals pretty solid.
.
Locks...
.
I've been to Fly-ins with my other plane... Open cockpit , expensive gear out if I wander...
This plane I built an auto lock on the passenger side , and a Key lock on the Pilot side.
In the picture... The auto-lock is disengaged in the shop.
