HELP : Nav info on IN 182A Color Weather Radar Indicator

Post by tooub08 »

I'm working on an MI-171 Helicopter, with an IN 182A Color Weather Radar Indicator (Honeywell Bendix King) installed on it. Part No of IN 182A is 066-3084-32 (It says "graphics compatibility for display of navigation information" with this model). Currently the indicator is not showing any navigation graphical information or moving map display. It only displays a weather radar picture. The bird also has got KLX-135 installed onboard.
Now the problem is, how to incorporate navigation information with moving map on IN 182A along with Weather Radar display as well. The LRU has got MAP and NAV buttons, but they do not function.

Help required.

Thanks.

Hi Tooub08.
To show Nav graphics on the IN-182A, you need a GC360A Radar Graphics Computer.
Since MFD's have come along, this is old technology but cheaper than an MFD.
I represent APG Eastern Avionics. We have an office in Kazan Helicopters in Russia and provide a large portion of the avionics going in the new MI-17's. Attached, is the Installation manual for the GC360. I does not refer to the KLX-135 but it does mention the KLN-88, and KLN-90B.
I would assume that it can work with the KLX-135 but I would confirm before investing. I have great resources and can help you find a good deal on the GC360A. Note that L3 also makes a Graphics computer that can work with the IN-182A

Mr. Hart,

It's so nice of you to reply. My email address is tooub08@gmail.com. Well, I did some homework and this is what I've finalized:

The helo has the following installed onboard :
IN 182A Color Radar Indicator
KNS-81

If the following is procured and installed onboard:
GC-381 Radar Graphics Controller
KDM-706A DME
KDI-525A HSI

The overall interconnection would be as following:
KNS-81 would give 10 waypoints data to GC-381
KDI-525A HSI would give compass data to GC-381
KDM-706A would give audio inputs to GC-381
And;
GC-381 would be connected with IN 182A.

So this is what I have digged so far. But it's all theory.
Could you please verify and highlight if there's a problem(s)?

Would be most kind of you.

Thanks.

Regards.
