Anyone familiar with this engine?

Post by Johnny C! »

The website says   € 12,400.   Is This $25K US?

A friend of mine knows someone who installed one on a light
sport. That owner said it was not cheap, but he was very
happy that it was very complete, i.e. exhaust system
and other accessories were included in the sale.

Troy is really down on the Jabiru's now.
He said they've seen a lot of major
problems.

I'm not thrilled with Rotax, either.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

John
There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Engine

I think the only reason Troy is unhappy with the Jabiru is he doesn't know how to install it correctly. Sonex has been using this engine for a very long time. It's relieable and has lots of power. If you install it right you can't find a better engine. :D
Everyone that I have flown were GREAT! I'll let you know how it works in a couple of months.

Engine preference

Post by ralynda »

I'm not familiar with this engine, but we decided to use a Continental 0200 in our Highlander. Troy has not been supportive of this at all, but we are much more comfortable with it than with either the Rotax or the Jabiru even though we've heard good things about both of them. We have had to had an engine mount specially made, and we are fabricating our own cowling because the one we got from Troy won't work for us. Have you considered a Continental 0200?

Rhonda,  I did take a look at that motor especially since that motor was the one chosen to go in the new Cessna.  But, I also heard that it is much heavier when all is said and done.  This has caused a much less useful load.  I don't have the figures right now but I will do some research.  I would look real hard at this looking at using such an engine with its weight on your plane.  I would look at CG the most.  There is where you might run into the problem and Troy probably knows this.  There is only so much you can put up front without using some balast in the back then you are really taking the useful load out of the plane.
Just my thoughts....
I have a Rotax 912uls and it is running beautifully at 8 whole hours!   :P
