Quick build wing kit questions

Post by juliant »

Hi
Anybody out there got an opinion on the Quick build wing kit set to fuselage?
was it worth it? how much time / effort was saved over standard kit ?
What is still left to complete with this kit? are the flaps/ailerons also fitted to the wing?
Thanks
Am trying to get a handle on whether to splash out on this or not
cheers

quick build thoughts

Post by KevinC »

I don't have anything to compare it to as I only experienced the quick build.  There is a lot of work to do on the wing after the quick build. I would say it took 1/2 of the pre-cover build time.  Well worth it in my case as this is my first go.

I think it was a no-brainer.  Their jigs guarantee the basic wing structure goes together right and makes it easy for them to do it a lot faster.  Setting the wings to the frame is a little more questionable in terms of cost, but I thought it was worth it in terms of confidence in the wing setting.  It isn't much fun handling the unweildy wing and getting it set just right otherwise.

Quick build wings

Post by Roger »

As a first time builder, I opted for the quick build wings also. I'm really glad I did it. Saves a lot of time and get's it right. To answer your other question on the flaps and ailerons, no their not included in the package. One has to fit them, them selves. A big job too I might add.

Thanks for the replies.
I am assuming then, that the ribs are glued to the spars and drilled and fitted/set to the fuse , and that the struts and strut fittings are also fitted and set to the fuse.
Is this correct?

Julian,
I also bought the quick build wings &
paid for Just to set them to my fuse. They have
alignment jigs that make this process fast
& accurate. They drill one hole in each of the
spar tubes to locate the strut brackets. The
builder will use these holes as locators to
finalize the mounting of the brackets.

I helped Troy's dad with a set of wings in the
build fixture on Monday. When I read the manual
on building the wings from components, it seemed
like a place for huge problems, as well as setting
them to the fuse. Both processes are so critical
not only to a good flying airplane, but a safe one,
too. Money well spent, no questions about that.

Even if I build another Just, I would not even consider
trying to build the wings myself.

Good Luck!

There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

For a few hundred bucks, the quick build wing was the biggest labor/time saving option of this project! We had to rip out 2 ribs because we were among the first long range tanks that were shipped and we took that option rather than wait for new wings, no big deal.
