protecting colored door threshold fabric

Post by Dave Krall CFII SEL SES »

In these high wear areas, we painted our airframe tubes glossy and to protect them I thought I'd use clear PVC split longwise, edges smoothed and lightly screwed or adhesived onto threshold and front & rear door posts but, the PVC seems too brittle. Guess I may try flexible clear tubing, to allow color to show through.

Any other ideas?

Door protection

Here's what I used - bend on brake out of aluminum strips.  I riveted them in place with SS rivets.

I don't have a picture right now, but what I used is a tight fitting large oil hose cut in half.    This way it is soft and does not scratch.  Works great.

Is there an advantage to using a square channel as opposed to a rounded one?

Thank you Lynn, I talked with Rans and all they could find was some rounded aluminum for an S-6.
Are yours round or squared off? Do you like them?

I guess I will need to call Traci and check, but I have rounded 2 piece door protectors the forward edge takes just as much a beating as the bottom sill. I had to cut to fit then used the smallest aluminum rivets I could find.  Really helps out with the fabric wear around the lexan too. S6 parts just got off the phone with Rans.
sorry about the bad lead.

You still have those pics from my visit to Merrit Island there is one of me standing in the door that would show the door frams I installed.

No problem Lynn, we eventually figured it was an S-6. Thanks Again for the info. Can't seem to find any PIX here of you & your door on Merrit Island though.
