Greetings all.  This is a wonderful forum. I am planning ahead for time to build an airplane.  I'm a fixed wing pilot and currently race cars for fun.  Looking for a new challenge and learning experience.  One of the most interesting kits is the turbine powered Helicycle single seat helicopter.  BUT, too expensive to get the heli rating and stay current...  So the next best thing is a neat little two place STOL type plane where I can fold the wings up and keep it in my workshop vs a hangar. Being only 2 miles from an airport would make this work without the hangar fees.  I'm considering a taildragger but would like a tri-gear option. For power a conventional Lycoming or Continental is preferred, but the Jabiru seems to have a nice package..   SO, am looking at various models that will fit the bill.  Anyway, glad to be here and will be learning a lot from the experienced and learned members...

Hi Bob and welcome!

Have a look at this:

and

It's a "Wild Thing" (basically an improved Murphy Rebel), all metal, 120 hp Jabiru 6-cylinder engine, 2 seats, tundra tires, great STOL performance.

Can also be ordered with tri-cycle gear (just in case you can't handle a "real aeroplane"   )
Factory-build or get a kit and build your own.

Cheers,

Bob,
Check out the Just Highlander. It seems
to fit you requirements quite well. I'm building
a Highlander on trike gear. I will be able to
convert to tail dragger, when or if I want to.
Folding wings are a standard feature. Most
people build them with Rotax's, Jabiru's, and
some others. I have already rented a half
Tee at my local airport, which is $90 per
month, instead of $300 per month for a
full Tee. I live close enough that I will be
able to take it home to my garage if I need
to.
I picked a used 80 Hp Rotax from Lockwood
with a warranty for a song. That helped me
tremendously on getting it finished. Check out
our forum here.

Also look on You Tube for Taildrgfun, for some
idea of the Stol & rough field capabilities. Steve
isn't afraid to yank on his.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas.

John
There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Johnny's advice

Post by por87 »

Johnny,
Thanks for the tip.  In fact I spoke with Troy at the factory for a while yesterday...  The Highlander is probably #1 or 2 on my list and I jumped off the 4th page of the forum to answer you... I plan to spend the next couple of weeks researching and talking to people... I would use the Jabiru engine, tri gear if i did the Highlander... Looks like a very nice machine.  I may write to you with a few questions if that's ok...
Thanks again for the welcome.
Merry Christmas!

Any time, Bob.

If I don't know the answer, I find
someone who can. Post them in the
Just forum, for best results.

Good Luck!
