4 layers on top 2 on bottom, no heat in the shop. Its between 35 and 40 in the shop all winter. The gloves are worn during bungee wrap to protect hands youre pulling pretty hard on that small cord. I wear them even in the summer for this. Jak

Credit where it's due. She's from West Virginia! :D

Them are some good kids, Scott.

There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Thanks John. My kids have discovered that just because you don't know how to do something, that's no reason not to try. .....And with a little effort, an ordinary person can even build an airplane! They are the source of much pride for me.

Hey I finally got-em rapped. Here are some pics of a rig that made the process manageable. Just make sure the vise is clamped hard!...and, now that I look at it, some safety ropes wouldn't hurt either. Ingredients: 1 inch angle iron, two short lengths of 1 inch black pipe, 1/4 inch hardware and the important part: Popsicle stick shims. If you want to barrow it let me know and I'll mail it to you...bird

Did you put the safety cables on before you wraped. Jak

Yup the safety cables are in there...and just to clarify I made them 9 inches long but the loops are 2 inches deep (as opposed to build manuals spec of 1.5). This allows them to hug the center line....bird

I lift up the wing untill there is no weight on the tire, put on a good fitting pair of leather gloves, lay on the ground and just do it. I don't think it's that hard, but like Troy say's, put your purse down first.

Hope this photo works. We put down our purses and bolted the long end of the structure in the hitch receiver of a truck and then wrapped the bungees by hand. Pictured is Joe Hall and I, Joe can figure out how to do anything and he's the only 70-something guy I know with a six pack.

Don't know why you just don't do a re-work to the shock struts make them the same size as the piper j-3 cub.... order the shock rings and be done with this raping business for once and for all.... for the little bit of money for the shock rings your airplane will be safer than with the rap shock cords. I know if I invested 60,000 or more into my plane it wouldn't have rap cord around it.

I just did my bungee wrap. Since I didn't have a fancy clamp to hold the strut I used a Field Expedient method by bolting one end of the strut to my garage door track and the other end to a 2x6 on the floor. By standing on the 2x6 I was able to pull up using my legs as well as my arms. That was especially important on the final wrap slipping the eye over the top horn. I zip tied the safety cable in place to keep it in position while I did the wrapping, then cut off the zip tie when I was done. I worked up a sweat doing it but is wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
