Highlander Crash

Post by Randy »

I don't know if you guys have heard about this yet but it is a real shame. I have not been able to learn of Gary's current condition but I hope he is recovering okay and my prayers go out to his family and friends. Here is the link to the preliminary NTSB report     http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_i ... 0404&key=1     Secondly here is a link to a local news station with some video of the crash scene.  You may have to cut and paste this address to your browser window http://www.wyff4.com/news/8435453/detail.html

From the picture it looks like the aircraft impacted at a pretty steep angle but then again too we don't know if the wreckage was moved to extract Gary. I don't know how much fuel he had on board but it looks like the rear mounted header tank did its job because I don't see any evidence of a post crash fire. That is one good thing.

Gary's Accident

Post by Wes »

Randy,
Thanks for the info and links.
I talked to the Just folks at Sun-N-Fun and it sounds like Gary is doing OK. A bunch of broken bones and swelling but he came around enough to give everybody a "peace sign" since I guess his jaw is all wired in place.
But it sounds like he is going to make it, and after a bunch of re-hab, I expect it will be hard to keep him out of an airplane.
It really is a shame, because Gary was looking to "steal the show" with that new Highlander, - it was a pretty tricked out bird.

Making "glacial" progress on kit #95,
