How to identify engine??? Please help

Post by Pee Wee »

Hello,
My dad has recently be moved to a nursing home and now I'm now in charge of gathering/selling his personal property. Anyhow... he has a Contenental 4 cyl. engine sitting in his basemment. Can someone please help me identify this engine?
All I know is he used it on an airboat years ago, and it still runs.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!!!

hi,

It would be nice if you can post pictures of the engine so that we can help you identify the engine if it is a Continental,Lycoming or Franklin engine. Also there are many horsepower ranges for the above stated four-banger engines. It would be nice to take pictures in several angles and close-ups of the data plate if ever one is still attached.

The Model, Type, and Code numbers, stamped directly into the engine, are used to identify our engines. Engines used in lawnmower applications usually have these numbers stamped directly into the blower housing, muffler heat shield, or a few inches above the spark plug. Depending on the style of engine shroud used, the engine numbers may be covered.
