Weights of Different Buttercup "Parts"

Post by planecrazzzy »

This thread will be something to compare weights of different areas on a Buttercup...

We all build a little different...

This might help us see where our specific item compares to what others are building...
.

PS I'm going to try to include a picture of the item weighed....

Hey Guys,
I took off the Tail wheel spring....

After the Epoxy Primer and Epoxy Color Coat...

My Bare Fuselage weighs Exactly 90 lbs...

This seems to be pretty light... because if compared to

some other Fuselages... they weighed more and didn't have the Vertical Fin.

The Wing was weighed in several combinations... All , after paint...
.
Wing with Wing Tip and Leading edge - 49 lbs
.
Wing , Wing Tip , Leading edge , Aileron & Flap - 62 lbs
( The two leading edge control rods were not included )
.
Leading Edge - 9.2 lbs

Seats...
.
Putting them on a small shipping scale at work made me pretty happy...

The Seats weight 7-3/4 lbs....... Wow !

The Bad news.... The covers weigh about 2 lbs..... ( I thought they were lighter )

So.... Total weight for each seat is 9-3/4 lbs

Not bad for "High Back" seats .... Head rest and Lumbar Support
.
.
Gotta Fly...

PS Putting all these holes in the seats took quite some time...
.
To"ME" , it was worth it... Very Comfortable , and Very Light

Cowl
The Cowl still needs to be touched up with a little "Bondo" and Painted...

But as it sits... both half's are 17 lbs total....

I just noticed... This is WITHOUT the lower piece of Aluminum and Air Scoop...

I'll go out and weigh the cowl again...

Well.... It still weighs 17 lbs....

Chalk it up to a Bathroom Scale... Close , not exact...

better scale , upper cowl 7.2 lbs

Doors
Ok... I think this is an area that can be made lighter....

My Doors aren't completely done yet... But this should be a good reference.

Each door is 6 lbs..... Both - 12 lbs

Chromoly tubing , .032 aluminum skin , .11 acrylic , door hinges & door latches
.
Gotta Fly...
.
.
With better scales , I have a total of 7 lbs and one ounce...No paint on the outside of the door...Hmmm, For all the parts it contains , Maybe the weight isn't so bad... It's a solid door.

I have some current fuselage weights with my new scales...
adds up to 632. 2
.
so I looked up the wings... they need fabric and paint , naked plus flaps, aileron, wing tip and leading edge came to 62 lbs each (i need to re weigh them)
.
I started chasing parts:
Lift struts - 13.4 pair / 13.6 pair
HS w/Elev - 9.2 set / 9.2 set

My math comes up with 800.7 lbs...

Although I still need to fabric and paint the wings...considering the Engine weight is extra...This sounds light or ballpark
The Horse Power to Weight ratio is greater than my Kolb Firestar....At 425lbs and 53 hp... It is classed as a High Performance Light aircraft (FAA)
Maybe this one Will slide under 850 lbs... W/ 118 ponies...?
Can't wait to see what that Climb prop does to this combo...STOL first.

Update with better scales.
the precise measurements of small parts are more accurate with the new scales.
but the overall weight is still 62 lbs...everything but fabric and paint .
Pix

But first... Lemme git these down after being on the ceiling 6 years...
They are sealed with epoxy ( Thinned as a varnish )
With High pressure, I blew off most of the dust...
When our outside water faucet finally THAWS...I'll hose it down with water...then wipe it.

Note... This is how you put the wings up... or take them down WITHOUT HELP...
