Winter

Post by Gil T »

Hi Guys

As you can see all of us aren't shoveling snow this winter.

That's Ted Sutton gassing up on Route 66.

That really hurts. Almost looks like he's wearing a T-Shirt in that photo.

No big deal though, it's bicycle season here in the mountains.

Gil T,
I love that photo of the Highlander at the filling station!

I have fantasized about driving my Highlander TD with the wings folded out the gate and down to the gas station.
I think this would only be a desperation move on my part, but I wonder if anybody has actually tried it (moving the Highlander under it's own power with the wings folded?). The assumption is you could actually crank up the engine and steer the thing with the wings back, and then manage the full fuel tanks on the return trip.

Fun to think about, probably not practical------

Fun to think about but not practical. First in a tail dragger, you have all the weight of the wings and fuel shifted to that little weak tail spring and you cant go over 8 gallons or the fuel squirts out of the fuel vents. In a tri-gear you have the same weight shift problem and it might fall on its tail. Entertaining to contemplate but not practical. Ted was getting fuel because he has the small tanks and had no choice. I added 2 gallons to the 19 I had on board because of a change of plans which we always seem to have. I came home with 3.9 on board which is a bare minimum. This points out how important your choice of big or small tanks is. The price of the large tanks seems a little steep if your just substituting one for another but if it's essential that's a small price.

Yeah and it is neat to taxi up to a pump and say fill it up. (With car gas)

At least you later builders have the choice. Our kit only had the 9 gallon tanks available. Back in my day......

yep, $5+ per gallon for premium. we're in the low $2 range most places in So Cal, but this is Amboy. check it out on google earth, with their location if they didn't mark up 3X they probably couldn't be in business. fortunately i was filling the H and not my F150, I only bought 7 gallons.
