I didn't want to hijack the Oshkosh thread so I started a new thread.
Here are a few pictures of how I filled the gap. I bent up some thin aluminum, overlapped the wing and turtle deck, and attached a couple small brackets to the turtle deck to fasten to. We filled the gap between the door and the lower edge of the wing with aluminum and I attached this to the trailing edge of that also. The tape under the edges is that Teflon stuff you can get to keep things from chafing.

Rick,
Nice job!, --and timely, I'm just starting to tackle that 'Ugly Gap'.
By the pics, it looks like the gap fillers come off with the TD, maybe a couple screws underneath?
What gage aluminum?
Have you noticed any difference in drag or handling?
Still trying to get an Oshkosh ride, -pretty much ruled out flying the Highlander up.
Long ways up there from C. Fla. and got an exhaust system to swap out, plus condition inspection due.
Waahn, waahn!
I have a buddy with a nice Cardinal that may be my ride-----

Rick!
That looks great!
I intend to tackle those gaps
after I get my bird in the air.
I used tinted Lexan for my
turtle deck & extended the
edges to the flaps. i will fill
in underneath with something,
but I dodn't know what it will
be yet. Maybe alum & paint
it black. I had thought about
Lexan, but it's hard get the
bends to look good.
Later!

There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.
I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Re: Flap - Turtle deck filler
It looks like it's about .020, and it's 2024 alloy. I have to remove them before I take the TD off but it's only 4 screws and I don't take it off very often anyway. I didn't notice any change in the plane but I figure it has to help at least a little. I've got a few other areas I plan to clean up when I get around to it but I'm not expecting any real increase in speed...we still have an airfoil that doesn't like to go fast.Wes wrote:Rick,

Hope you make it to the show. Arriving in a Cardinal would be a nice way to do it
Thanks John!Johnny C! wrote:Rick!

Re: Flap - Turtle deck filler
Rick,
Really nice job.
Did you add something on the inboard edge of the top cap strip (near the fuel tank) on the rib for the screw. No screws needed on the aft portion of the filler piece, just the front 4 correct.
Thanks again for the pictures, very helpful.

Thanks, Gary. I added a 2 lug anchor nut top and bottom to the end of the rib to screw into.
