Beader - Modified

Postby planecrazzzy » Sat Mar 15, 2014 11:05 am

Hey Guys,
This is a COOL tool when working with aluminum...

Even the simplest overlaps can make it look professional ...

I modified a few things on it... I made a cover over the gears for safety.

I bolted a "tab" on it for putting it in a Vise...

and I made a rack to hold the different sets of dies...

But the most useful Modification was changing the "Crank" handle to a "Wheel"

I found myself in awkward positions while holding a long piece and cranking it through...

The wheel enables you to stand over your piece , and operate the beader more efficiently.
.
Here's some pictures of the mods...

In these pix , you can see all the mods I was talking about...

About the only thing I need to do , Is make a "T" handle for the tension adjuster nut on top.

I'll post a few examples of the pieces I have used this Beader on...

In these pictures... You can see the Rounded beads to strengthen the side of the fuel

tank from "Oil Canning"...

and in the same picture I'm bending over the curved piece's "Edge"...

Another one , I put a "Step lip" on the cowl... this slips under the Nose Bowl...

That lip was also hit with a "Shrinker"... But that's a different tool....
.
and the other picture is the Lower Cowl.... this is where the upper half Overlaps it...

Here's an example of Stretching to crank the thing while trying to keep the material

on track... It's hard to follow the line , hold the piece , and crank at the furthest point...
.
The Wheel lets you stay on top of your work... right where the line meets the dies...
.
.
You can see, not all parts can be supported with something...

For instance, The Cowling was a pretty awkward piece to hold during the Bead process.
