Rotax Plumbing Question
Hi all.
I'm installing a Rotax 912ULS in my Highlander. In the firewall forward kit I received an aluminum tube about 6" long and roughly an inch in diameter. The package it came in is marked something like "coolant extension". Anybody out there know where this tube is supposed to go?

Re: Rotax Plumbing Question
It's used to combine two of the hoses
to reach their destination points.
I used a couple of them to cross the
hoses under the engine to get away
from my Toucan exhaust cannisters.
I received a few copier printed images
that helped to clarify some of those
locations. Did you receive those prints?

There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.
I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Re: Rotax Plumbing Question
John,
Thanks for the reply.
I received no documentation outside of the Rotax Installation Guide. If you could forward what you have, that would be fantastic.

Re: Rotax Plumbing Question
Once you see the pics from Lynn it will make sense.
I wanted to monitor the water temp (not using Evans) and the slice tube was a perfect spot to wire up the temp sender. Make sure you create a bead on the aluminum tubes.

Re: Rotax Plumbing Question
I did not create a bead, so I will
check those regularly for leaks.

Re: Rotax Plumbing Question
John,
I didn't have the beads on my PulsarXP with a 912UL. No issues for the first 300 hours, even though I checked the connections regularly a hose came off after take off. Water temp went down, CHT went up very quickly. I made a very quick return to the airport, shut it down on final after I had the airport made. If I was at cruise altitude or not near an airport the engine would have been cooked.
If you know someone that can roll the bead I'd have it done.

Summit Racing http://www.summitracing.com/ has Earl's Performance manual tubing beaders in a variety of sizes from 3/8" to 2" http://www.summitracing.com/search?Page ... g%20Beader. These run $32 to $76, depending on tube size. It's $410 for a complete set of 9 tools.
Another source is Graham Tool Co. http://www.tubebeadingtool.com/tool_options.htm. Their tools each do a range of sizes, and run $130 for 1/4" and 5/16"; $140 for 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8"; and $150 for 3/4", 1" and up.
Aircraft Tool Supply has a toolset that beads up to 1" tubing http://www.aircraft-tool.com/shop/detai ... T_ID=AP145. It's a $420 kit that's a contemporary version of the old Parker line. That kit appears to be the one at Aircraft Spruce http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/t ... erbead.php for the same price. The same kit is at Wicks Aircraft http://aircraftproducts.wicksaircraft.c ... kit/ap145? for $395 and at SkyGeek http://search.skygeek.com/?vwcatalog=st ... ol&x=0&y=0 for $371. SkyGeek also carries individual tools from the ATS kit from $147 to $170.
I'm pretty sure the Graham tools are the ones used at the specialty machine shop I used to frequent. I put the Graham medium and large size tools on my wish list for birthday and Christmas.

Re: Rotax Plumbing Question
Gary,
Thanks for the heads up on this.
Rather than spend the cash as listed
above, I think I will find someone who
can do these for me.
Thanks!
