Gap seals, VG's and final touches

Post by Familyflyer »

I know there is not many flying the SuperSTOL but I hope to get some feed back. Before flight I would like to get a bit of information. Back in my Avid days, I installed a tape seal in the elevator gap which substantially improved the elevator response. Should this be done on the SuperSTOL?

I plan to install VG's after I am flying, has it made a noticeable difference?

Trim tab, how much down trim tab (nose up) is used to keep it trimmed with full flaps on, does it need more trim when you add flaps or less? High wings usually balloon up with flaps and low wings do the opposite. I have 45degrees full nose up now. Curious what this plane does.

Where have you guys installed your Data plates?

Hello Troy,

I would install the VG's after the first flight, but I have them all along the wing. I would also install flap seals as this makes a big difference in the getting the tail up. Also covering the gear makes the airplane faster 4-6 knots and gets the tail up. The airplane has no bad habits, and will be completely controllable. The trim will need a bit of adjustment but no biggy. Good luck.........

I seem to recollect that someone
told me, maybe in a dream, that
the VG's added a little top end speed.

Is that true, or was I really dreaming?

Thanks!

John
There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.
