Spoiler Installation Question

Post by kenryan »

Working on installing the spoilers, and I see that when the spoilers are down as far as they will go (when they are resting on the compression tubes) the top of the spoilers are flush with the top of the wing.

I am assuming that when the ailerons are neutral or down, the spoilers are below the top of the wing. The only way I will be able to achieve that is if I trim the spoilers (height).

Have others had to trim the spoilers height? Pic attached.

Ken,

Yes the spoilers get trimmed to fit at the very end of the installation process. You will end up trimming about 1 1/4" off the top of the plate. I think this is done for a couple of reasons, one being that it is easier for the factory to manipulate the plate while they use the break to make the curved shape, and it also allows each user to get exactly the fit they need for installation variations.

Thanks Ben. That's what I figured, but wanted confirmation before proceeding.

This makes more sense as I didn't realise they need trimming yet. I am at the early stage and had assumed they were correct size which does cause a little confusion trying get an idea of correct fit and operation. Is there any installation instructions? My order went in a few months ago and maybe there is more info?

Where should the spoiler tip be when at neutral aileron position?

Allan,

The top of the spoilers will be just a touch below flush with the top of the wing when ailerons are neutral.
