N957DK Phase I Complete!
Hey gang,
I managed to complete my Phase I flight testing. A couple weeks too late for Oshkosh but it's done. The plane flew hands off from the first flight and I haven't encountered any unusual flight characteristics. The only problems encountered were: no oil pressure indication on start up (Dynon FlightDek D180), a spark plug wire came loose and a slight shimmy in the Pecola Tundra Lite tail wheel. The spark plug and tail wheel issues were fixed in a matter of minutes. The oil pressure took longer... That is until I had the Dynon Installation manual out and remembered that 5V is supplied to the sender via the D180. Yep, I didn't switch on the avionics master switch during start but powered up the D180 with it's internal backup battery. Wish the sense voltage to the oil pressure sender could be isolated from the D180, not optimal but that's just the way it will have to be. Good to know in the event of an electrical failure that the oil pressure will read zero.
I've been having a blast exploring the flight envelope now it's time to hit a couple of fly-ins before the season is over. If everything works out I'll see you at Vic and Billy Pain's fly-in this September.
Blue sky and tail winds for all!

Yep, lots of hard work. I've figured out that I almost enjoy building more than flying.... Now the question is, what's next? Maybe floats or skis or who knows.

There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.
I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Re: N957DK Phase I Complete!
Congrats Dan! I completed my Highlander last week, but I'm still waiting for the registration card from FAA. I have put four hours on just taxing.
I trying to get a Phase 1 flight test plan together. The FAA example is far to complicated for this plane. I can hone the FAA plan down, but I woulld prefer to see what someone else who has already tested has done. Any chance you could share your test plan?
