Improved SS Flap Handle?

Post by kenryan »

On Plane Fun Aircraft website -- http://justaircraft8285574833.vpweb.com ... es-options -- there is pictured a SuperSTOL flap handle that is "very easy to pull, stops where you stop it, 2 degree increments, get full travel out of your flaps, direct bolt in where old flap handle locates. tested by Billy"

Has anybody here seen it? What do you think?

That's a Rob Pedersen design as I understand it. It functions like an ebrake in a Honda. I've seen it, it's pretty slick. I'm not sure if I'll put one like that in my plane or the new factory flap handle. I haven't seen the new factory handle yet, I've heard it's a redesign.

Thanks Keith. Man you are really cruising on your build. Regarding that flap handle, I'm wondering how they made it "easy to pull." Seems like either the flap handle would have to be longer (which I don't think is possible) or the distance it travels would have to be greater. Can't see any other way to make it easier to pull. Any idea how they increase the mechanical advantage to make it easier to pull?

It comes with steroids and a set of weights.

I talked with Billy about his flap handle. He said it is easy to pull, that he can pull full flaps using two fingers. He also sent a picture, which I will attach to this post. Now I would really like to talk to one or two pilots who have flown and used this device. Must be someone out there?

Ken, Robby said he'd be happy to fly you around in his Superstol and let you try his flap handle first person when he gets back in the spring. It's really a slick design. I've flown with him and was very impressed with the ability to set your flaps at basically any degree you want. I think he's planning on being back in AK mid April.

Keith, let Robbie know I'll take him up on his offer. Good to know he's coming back up.

Installed the new flap handle this week and it is a big improvement. Smooth, reliable into the detents with less effort. Worth getting.

No photos, but it is a drop in with a few different hardware parts. Half of the work is measuring and installing the new cable. ALL necessary new hardware come with the kit.

I installed the new flap handle but have not flown it. I used to pieces of 4130 3/4 x 5 x063 to connect the current cables to the handle. I did not have to make any adjustments after installation .

Any chance the new handle will fit the Highlander?

The flap handle mentioned in Plan Fun Aircraft is also listed in the Highlander options.

Gary if you put those deflectors everyone calls "flap gap seals" on your wings Highlander flaps are not hard to pull. They work best along with VG's.
