Are you planning large Plex Windows behind the doors?

Yes sir, that is correct. We're working on Robs turtle deck for his airplane today and wrapping up some paint on mine.

Make sure all of your tools, flashlight, clamps, brushes etcetera are accounted for.
It only takes 1 flashlight in the linkages to ruin your day flying.
As fast as you are going moving through the Build, you might leave a tool in the plane as you build!
The paint scheme is “Awesome".

With windows that large how will you deal with the 'oil canning' effect?

Paul, good thinking. We're not rushing the build even though it seems fast. I suppose when you work 12-16 hour days you can make good progress. Clearly I have no life.

Roger, mine will be the same as Robbie's plane. The turtle deck and side windows are one piece of glass. The visibility is spectacular. Rob has 250 something hours on his and no problems with the windows. The back section is reenforced for some extra strength. We bent my glass up while he was building his for this other plane so I'll be ready to install mine with some minor adjustments.

It's fun seeing it on the gear. I put my tail together today and got the rudder ready for the other paint colors on the bottom. My panel is mostly done, just needs a couple holes yet and paint.

I have had multiple second thoughts about spending the money to go to Valdez, but I'd love to see your plane and get a ride in it. My only concern might be a flashlight in the rudder cables. There was a crease here in Texas of a guy that lost his flashlight durning the annual.

That's a nifty idea... but it appears that using a single piece of Lexan there would make it difficult to remove the turtledeck for wing folding... or do you have a workaround?

Richard, removing the turtle deck is pretty simple. There might be 8 more screws to take out before removing the turtle deck.

I built my baggage door today inbetween paint booth sessions on the rudder. I think the door turned out great.

Thank you sir! I'm very happy with how it turned out.

I got my doors all built and installed today. The brakes are done except that I'm waiting for a few fittings for my parking brake. Tail wheel and tail feathers are all done. Working on the firewall and some odds and ends while my engine mount is on its way from the factory. Hopefully I'll be hanging the engine tomorrow evening if I get my firewall forward in the mail tomorrow.

I'm still new to this, so I'd like to ask a newbe question. On your rear windows, I see some kind of inserts on the metal standoffs. I don't recall inventorying those, so I'm guessing those are after market. Would you mind expanding on those?

Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce,

Builders are using Rivnuts for windows and panels, that is what they look like on the picture.

I noticed those rivnuts too. What size are you using on those small welded tabs? I was measuring my tabs and thought that the edge distance looked too close for for even the 6-32 size. The smallest 6-32 size are .189" in diameter so a 2D edge distance means the tab should be .756" wide, my small tabs measure just .512".
